Frequently Asked Questions About Mailchimp
What is Mailchimp?
Mailchimp is one of the oldest email service providers, founded in 2001. It has grown to become one of the top email marketing solutions available today.
Its primary function is to send newsletters and/or automated email campaigns, that allow businesses, marketers and others, to grow their audience and business results.
It is a way of connecting with your customers, engage with them and create long-lasting relationships.
Along the way, Mailchimp has evolved into an all-in-one marketing solution that enables, email marketing, create landing pages, postcards, segmentation, paid ads and others.
Why Use Mailchimp?
Email marketing is a key ingredient in the whole marketing strategy of most marketers and businesses. That’s why most users tend to choose Mailchimp.
If you’re just starting out, and have a small audience, up to 2000 subscribers, then you probably have opted for the free version of Mailchimp. With this plan, you can create, send and manage newsletters, subscribers, lists and CRM.
Those are the main reasons why users choose Mailchimp.
Who Should Look For Mailchimp Alternatives?
Even being one of the oldest email senders, Mailchimp is starting to lag behind its direct competitors.
Many of the other alternatives to Mailchimp offer more perks and options, for lower and competitive prices.
For these reasons, many users started to think twice, and opt for an alternative and save more money, and invest directly in their own businesses.
Basically, you should look for Mailchimp alternatives if you fit in to any of these reasons:
- You are on a tight budget
- You need complex automations
- You want to manage multiple mailing lists
- You want to set up dynamic landing pages and do A/B testing with them
- You need an effective and affordable CRM tool
- You want a solid data privacy
Is Mailchimp a CRM?
In short, yes. Mailchimp has a built-in CRM system that allows marketers or businesses to collect, organize and interface with customer reports, so they can improve their campaigns.
However, if you need more complex CRM needs, Mailchimp may offer integrations with other standalone CRM solutions, but it’s not the ideal option.
CRM software is much more than just manage email campaigns. A CRM tool helps you manage contacts, accounts, leads, orders, service tickets and other data points entries.
That’s why, even though Mailchimp is able to have some functions compatible with a CRM solution, it’s not an option if you want to have a total management of your business.
Is Mailchimp HIPAA Compliant?
No, Mailchimp is not HIPAA Compliant. As a matter of fact, Mailchimp states in their terms and conditions that it is the customer responsibility to ensure they comply with regulations such as HIPAA and that Mailchimp is not liable it their service is used in violation of HIPAA regulations nor if its service does not meet HIPAA requirements.
So, if you’re thinking of using Mailchimp because of a HIPAA compliance, then you need to find an alternative.
How Does Mailchimp Work?
Mailchimp is an email marketing platform that fulfills all your requirements of email management with your customers. How it works, it’s very simple.
After you created an account, you can either import your subscribers list, or create a new one, to start receiving your upcoming subscribers.
Then, up to 2000 subscribers you can have a free account that enables you to send 10,000 emails per month. You can create emails from scratch or use the available templates.
You can create signup forms that you can embed on your website, or create a landing page, with an URL that Mailchimp will provide, so you can collect your new subscribers emails.
Mailchimp also offers more complex features such as Automation and Segmentation, if you opt for a paid plan.
Mailchimp is a very simple and intuitive platform to use, so you should be able to work with it in no time.
Is Mailchimp Free?
Yes, Mailchimp has a free plan. If you have up to 2000 subscribers you can sign up to Mailchimp free plan. However, there are other options available, such as Essentials plan for $9.99, Standard plan for $14.99 or Premium for $299.
All paid plans have different features attached to them.
What Is the Best Mailchimp Alternative?
For me, in my personal experience and for many reasons, the best alternative to Mailchimp is ConvertKit.
One of the most obvious reasons is the price. ConvertKit is much more affordable, even on all plans.
One of the other reasons is that the Mailchimp system is a little sensitive. And even if you are doing everything within its regulations, if by chance the system thinks that your emails could be considered spam, then your account is blocked forever. And I say forever because if you are unlucky enough to only have the Free plan then you won’t have any support to help you unlock your account.
The next reason is linked to the previous one, and it is support. ConvertKit even in Free plan, its support is phenomenal. Whenever I have any questions or problems, they respond within a very short time, even if you have a Free plan.
So my obvious choice is ConvertKit. You should try it. They offer a trial, that you can find here.
Conclusions
Like I mentioned before, my recent conclusion is that ConvertKit, GetResponse or AWeber are by far the best alternatives to Mailchimp.
Price, features and ease-to-use, were the main reasons that led me to make this decision.
Although Mailchimp is a reasonable option, I believe these platforms can serve your interests much more profitably, which will take your business to the next level.
Let me know in the comments which email marketing platform are you going to choose.
